High School Scholarship
I grew up in a valley with no electricity or mobile signal. The road to school was very difficult — a red dirt road with holes and ditches along the way. In the rainy season it can take 3–4 times longer than the 1.5 hours it takes in dry season. Because of this I lived in a school dormitory.
After completing Grade 12, I want to take the Police Sergeant entrance exam because it requires less budget than university, and my parents are already paying for my older sibling's university. I also like this career because it is challenging, I want knowledge in this area to protect my family, and it offers stable employment.
I started working at age 4 — at that time I hadn't started school yet and I helped my mother carry firewood. I loved going to the rice fields and farm with my parents. When my mother wove cloth at home I helped her wind the thread. In secondary school I began doing day labor for hire at around age 14–15. There isn't always work available here so income is not steady.
When I'm home I help with church activities. When the community goes to make firebreaks I go to help. Last semester when flooding occurred I helped with that. I have served as traffic control during local festivals and community events. When trees fell in storms I helped cut and clear them. I participated in community tree-planting activities.
I want to become a police officer and go help the people. I want to improve my country. If possible I also want to have my own business so I have enough budget to support my family, since the main career alone may not be enough to support my parents.
