University Scholarship
I am a Karen minority from a remote village far from the city with bad roads and no electricity. I have 3 siblings all currently studying, so my parents work very hard to support all of us. I therefore work part-time to help ease the family's burden, and I study diligently, maintaining a GPA of 3.50 or above every semester so my parents' hard work is not in vain.
I chose to study Tourism and Hotel Management because I am interested in service, communication, and working with others — a career with good income potential and room for growth. I want to use this knowledge to build a stable career, support my family, and help them have a better quality of life.
I started working at age 10, cleaning classrooms for 150 baht per month. At 13 I did rice planting and chili picking for hire. At 18 I came to the city during school breaks to earn income. Since entering university I have worked part-time alongside my studies and currently work as a cashier during school breaks.
I always enjoy helping others and joining community activities. On Buddhist holy days I go to help clean the temple. I regularly join the village's garbage collection and firebreak activities because I believe helping the community is essential for making it a good and improving place to live.
My dream is to work in a field directly related to my studies because I love service work and meeting people. In the future I want to work in a stable tourism business to earn income, support my family, and bring knowledge back to help develop my own community so it becomes more widely known.
